1st ENGINEERING CAPSTONE EXPO-2022

Under the dynamic vision/ leadership of worthy Chairman, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Engr. Muhammad Najeeb Haroon, 1st Engineering Capstone Expo-2022 at Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore was conducted on September 19, 2022 (Monday) to boost up the quality of education and competency among young engineering graduates through competition of their knowledge, creativity, and skills demonstrated by respective FYDP/ Capstone projects in the final year and to provide engineering graduates a platform towards academia-industry linkages. Wherein, the Chief Guest was Mian Aslam Iqbal, Senior Minister Punjab Government, and currently Minister for Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering, Minister for Industries, Commerce, Investment & Skills Development alongwith Muhammad Mohsin Leghari, Governing Body Members namely Engr. Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, Vice Chairman Punjab, Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, VC MNS-UET, Multan, Engr. Prof. Dr. Inayatullah Khan Babar, VC, UET-Taxila, Engr. Imran Khan Cheema , Engr. Syed Nafast Raza, Engr. Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussain, Engr. Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan, also graced the occasion with their presence, Vice Chancellors of eminent Universities namely Engr. Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, VC, UET, Lahore, Engr. Prof. Dr. Suleman Tahir, VC, KFUEIT, Rahim Yar Khan, Engr. Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shakir, VC PTUT, Lahore, Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, VC, Mir Chakar Khan Rind University of Technology DG Khan, important dignitaries namely Engr. Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir Chairman, PHEC, Chairman, Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturer (PAAPAM), Abdul Razzaq Gohar, representatives of Chief Secretary, Punjab office also graced the occasion with their presence and eminent Deans, Senior Faculty Members and Junior Faculty was also present to witness the first ever Engineering Capstone Expo being conducted by PEC in the History of Pakistan.

The event was inaugurated by Worthy Senior Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Aslam, he was received by Chairman, PEC Engr. Muhammad Najeeb Haroon and Chief Organizer, Engr. Mir Masood Rashid, after that he was taken for a visit towards the projects exhibition area, where he saw various projects being exhibited at the stalls, inquired students about their projects and gave suggestions to students regarding their Projects and encouraged them to work in unity and to take small problems from target audience/ organization/ industry, to benefit the society. He then talked to media and stated that in current era engineering is the backbone of any country and applauded the efforts of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for conduction of such event. He also stated that with the help of events like this engineers will be able to solve real time problems, hence in turn will be able to gain practical skills. He was presented a memorandum of shield for gracing the occasion with his presence as a Chief Guest.

Then National Anthem of Pakistan was played and after that Engr. Dr. Mansoor Baluch, requested Chief Organizer Engr. Mir Masood Rashid/ Advisor to Chairman, PEC/ Convener, PPDC to formally start the event, wherein he elaborated the efforts, vision and ideas of Chairman, PEC for the engineering graduates. He also briefed the audience about the other initiatives being taken by the Chairman, PEC (i.e PEC OJT Program, Funding of Project proposal etc.,). He briefed audience that PEC received about more than 400 projects from various HEIs and after scrutiny/ review process only 173 projects were selected from 34 HEIs to exhibit their projects and congratulated all the participants for their involvement in the historical event of 1st Engineering Capstone Expo-2022. He then thanked all the Governing Body Members for their active involvement and their help in conduction of 1st Engineering Capstone Expo-2022. He mentioned that it is because of their leadership efforts that this event has been materialized.

He also appreciated efforts of the team of PEC Regional Office, Lahore comprising of Engr. Wasif Irshad Bhatti, Deputy Registrar- (Head PEC, R/o Lahore), Engr. Syed Ahmed Waqas, Engr. Amir Nadeem, Engr. Umer Ijaz, Engr. Arslan Bin Saeed, Engr. Ahmed Umer Rana & Engr. Fouzia Anwar for giving their all secretariat support for conduction of this event.

Then the Chief Organizer requested Engr. Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, Vice Chairman, Punjab to utter few words for the audience, VC-Punjab Congratulated all the participants for their involvement in the historical event of PEC. He further elaborated that more than 150 projects are being displayed and it is a big success for our engineering community that PEC has been able to create a platform where engineering graduates talent can be seen by the Industry, thereby resolving the issue of Academia-Industry Linkage Gap. He also stated that PEC has launched On the Job Training Program to acquire practical skills and hands-on exposure and to uplift the engineering education standard centralized entry test will be conducted from now on to create uniformity for the engineering graduates. He then encouraged the students that engineering graduates shall make active involvement in such kind of events to remove the academia-industry gaps and should take advantage of such opportunities created by PEC. He also congratulated the Chief Organizer and his team for putting all of its efforts together for conduction of such event.

Chief Organizer then requested Chairman, PHEC to utter words for the audience, Chairman, PHEC congratulated all participants for their active involvement in this PEC Historic event. Chairman, PHEC payed remarks that he himself visited various exhibitions but this engineering capstone expo is one of its kind, which would not only revolutionize the industry but will create a paradigm shift in the history & role of PEC.

Then the Chief Organizer requested event guest Miss Sania Kamran, to utter some words for the audience, she first of all appreciated the efforts done by PEC and applauded the women participation in the event and encouraged women’s to actively participate in these event to gain experience & practical skills and come forward in the progress of nation. She then thanked Chief Organizer for its invitation and coordination.

Chief Organizer then requested Worthy Chairman, PEC Engr. Muhamad Najeeb Haroon to share their thoughts after seeing his idea into practical implementation. Chairman, PEC stated that its an honor for him and his PEC team for conduction of such events for the betterment of engineering graduates. He encouraged all the engineering graduates’ participants to take active participation in such kind of events and do struggle/ hardwork for betterment of their future and their nation. He also mentioned that there are only three Pillars i.e., Unity, Faith & discipline which can take our nation further ahead. He also explicitly mentioned that the idea behind these kind of events is to provide the young engineering graduates to have some practical skills, boost up their engineering education and encourage them to solve real time world problems. He then thanked all the Chief Guests, Chief Organizer and Secretariat staff for putting their efforts for conduction of this event. Then the Shield were distributed by Chairman, PEC to all the eminent dignitaries & present GB members

Then after the closing remarks of the inaugural ceremony, Chief Organizer requested participant to be available at their stalls so that the Jury of experts comprising of Engr. Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shakir (Convener), Engr. Prof. Dr. Khalid Farooq, Engr. Nasir Maqbool for projects related to Civil, Architectural (Building Architecture), Transport, Urban, Environment, Agricultural, Engr. Abdur Razzaq Gauhar (Convener), Engr. Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Mufti, Engr. Ali Akbar, Engr. Dr. Rizwan Shad for projects related to Mechanical Mechatronics, Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial, Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran (Convener), Engr. Mian Sultan Mahmood, Engr. Nadeem Malik, Engr. Dr. Faheem Gohahr Awan, Engr. Dr. Sadia Murawat, Engr. Amir Sattar for projects related to Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Avionics, Biomedical, Energy, Engr. Prof. Dr. Amanat Ali Bhatti (Convener), Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zubair Abu Bakar, Engr. Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmed for projects related to Mining, Petroleum / Petroleum & Gas, Geological, Engr. Prof. Dr. Adeel Akram (Convener), Engr, Dr, Ali Hammad for projects related to Geoinformatics, Computer, Software, Bio-Engineering, Engr. Dr. Sadiq Hussain (Convener), Engr. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Noon, Engr. Zahoor Ahmed, Engr. Dr. Yasir Nawab for projects related to Chemical, Nuclear, Polymer, Textile, Metallurgy & Materials, Food should be able to review their projects and member GB and eminent dignitaries should be able to give their participation certificates.

Then at last after rigorous scrutiny, as per the defined criteria and after evaluation of Twenty Members of juries, following projects namely, Development of Rockfall Hazard rating system for KKH from Thakot to Pattan from UET, Lahore, Civil Engineering Department, Design optimization and fabrication of in pipe microhydal turbines, UET Lahore, Mechanical Engineering Department Design and implementation of reverse wending machine for solid waste collection using SSD and deep learning Algotherims, UET, KSK Campus, Electrical Engineering Department, Designing of Artificial Seismic shadow zones using different cloaking methods to attenuate strong ground motions, UET, Lahore, Geological Engineering Department, Modeling and simulation of LPG Air Mix Plant as a substitute of Natural Gas, NFC-IET Multan, Chemical Engineering Department won the competition and project namely Mechanical Performance of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Bricks, UET, Lahore, Civil Engineering Department, Design and Fabrication of steam Cleaner, UCP, Lahore, Mechanical Engineering Department, ROBO server for food management services, LCWU, Lahore, Electrical Engineering Department, Extraction of rare earth elements from coal ash of Punjab Pakistan by chemical leaching with novel deep eutectic solvents, UET, Lahore, Mining Engineering Department Ultrasonic Aided Resistance Spot welding of Dissimilar Metals for Automotive and Aerospace Industry, UoP, Lahore Metallurgy & Materials Engineering Department came runner up were awarded with the cash prizes by Chairman, PEC

At last event concluded after the ending remarks by Engr. Mir Masood Rashid, Chief Organizer/ Convener PPDC, wherein he stated that all the members of current GB and all other colleagues will continue working like this and will strive hard for the betterment of engineering community and to provide them with job, internship, continuing professional course etc.
